Eating Disorders Don’t Have an Age LimitIn honor of Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 23–March 1, 2026), we are highlighting an important truth: eating disorders affect people across the entire lifespan.
Throughout this article, we explore how eating disorders present differently at each stage of life and why developmentally informed care matters. We also address the impact on families and loved ones. Eating disorders are complex biopsychosocial illnesses — not caused by families — yet caregivers, partners, and support systems often become one of the strongest protective factors in recovery. Awareness Week invites us to challenge myths, reduce stigma, and deepen our understanding of what these illnesses truly look like beyond stereotypes. Most importantly, Eating Disorders Awareness Week reminds us that help is available and recovery is possible at any age. Whether symptoms began last month or decades ago, compassionate, specialized treatment can interrupt the cycle and support lasting healing.
