Soeun Hong, Clinical Therapist Intern

About Soeun

Hello, my name is Soeun [So-un]! Have you ever struggled to trust those closest to you—yourself included? I understand how difficult it can be to tune into your inner voice, even though it’s often the most genuine source of guidance because it reflects your true needs and feelings. Since starting my journey to become a clinician, I’ve come to see the importance of trusting my body, my intuition, and myself. It’s been a powerful, life-enhancing lesson that has helped me live in a more sustainable and fulfilling way with a lighter heart.

Building meaningful relationships and looking inward have been essential in this process. These personal and clinical experiences have deepened my commitment to creating a safe, compassionate, and supportive space for my clients. Sharing your story takes courage, so just by coming here, I believe many positive changes are already underway. The darkest hour is just before dawn. I’m grateful to be part of your journey and look forward to hearing your unique story and supporting you along the way.

Focus Areas & Specialties

I work with adults and specialize in supporting clients through a variety of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, trauma, and navigating life transitions related to relationships, careers, and migration. I am committed to developing my expertise in treating eating disorders and body image issues.

Therapeutic Training & Background

I am currently a third-year doctoral student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, working towards my PhD in Counseling Psychology. I am working under the supervision of Carmen Buis, MSW, LCSW, and am in training in both Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT) and the specialization of eating disorders. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling (M.Ed.) from Korea University. Over the past three years, I have worked in college counseling settings, providing support to non-traditional, international, and traditional students with various psychological concerns.

My therapeutic approach is guided by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Radically Open DBT with humanistic counseling principles from interpersonal and process-oriented theories. I value authenticity, collaboration, flexibility, and compassion, all aimed at guiding clients toward authentic connection, greater self-understanding, and emotional well-being.

Professional Style

Clarity is something I often hear from my clients about our sessions. I focus on building a trusting, collaborative relationship and regularly check in to see how we’re progressing. You can expect a supportive space filled with collaboration, empathy, and understanding. I also aim to bring fresh, holistic perspectives and help you recognize and build upon your strengths. My goal is to create a safe environment where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore and grow.
