Our Approach

Choosing a therapist or treatment program is a deeply personal process. We know that the therapeutic relationship is the most important component to your change. At The Current, we believe in four things that cultivate a successful therapeutic process.

 Authenticity

A trusting therapeutic relationship is an important catalyst for your growth and change. A trusting relationship is built on authenticity. You can expect us to be our genuine selves, allowing you to get to know us as a human being, and not just a professional. We are committed to providing you a safe environment to share your most painful experiences. We are truly passionate about the work that we do and bring that passion into every session. We accept you just as you are and provide you with the tools you need to be your authentic self and live your authentic life.

Connection

We believe that safe, meaningful, and authentic connection is truly what makes our lives worth living. We strive to create that type of connection in our therapeutic relationship and help you create that connection in your life. There is great power in authentic connection, both to ourselves and to others. We will teach you how to connect with your mind and body and how to build safe social connections in your everyday world.

Effectiveness

We know that therapy works. We believe in providing you with individualized therapeutic interventions that are effective. It is important to us to stay current on the best available research and evidence-based treatments. We want you to get better! We use not only what has been shown to be effective, but we also use our clinical expertise to use what works for you. This means listening to your individual needs and wants and matching them up to effective interventions.

The evidence-based interventions we most commonly utilize at The Current are Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement and Desensitization Processing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and the Polyvagal Theory.

Sustainable Change

It is important to us that you get better! That you meet your goals, feel better, and build a life that is worth living. Not just for a few days, weeks, or months, but for life. Creating true change takes time and a lot of hard work, it’s not going to happen overnight. But it is completely possible.

This may mean that you’re in therapy for a few months or a few years. It may mean that you create a treatment plan with your therapist to address issues in segments. Evidence-based therapies are time limited, and often individuals receive the results they were seeking upon completion of a therapeutic protocol. Other clients find partial recovery and may shift their focus in therapy after completing their initial goals.

Sustainable and effective change is anchored in authentic connection. Our therapists are truly passionate about what they do and strive to bring these values into each interaction with you. Our therapist will listen to your wants and needs and work with you to identify your goals. Therapy is a collaborative relationship that works when the client and therapist are aligned in vision and direction. If these values speak to you, contact us today for a free consultation, or head over to our team page to read more about our individual therapists — or visit our specialties page to learn more about the specific services we offer.
